Senior Development Engineer - Metallurgist Location: Galway, Ireland Department: Engineering Reports to: Senior Project Engineer
This is a senior role in the R&D group, providing specialist support to product and process development activities while taking a lead role in the investigation and development of platform material technologies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Employees are expected to support the quality concepts inherent in the business philosophies of Lake Region Medical including a variety of job related tasks, which may not be specific to this position profile.
The main function of this role is to provide support within the organisation where needed to aid in problem solving or improvement activities, through use of standard structured problem solving methodologies and the application of background knowledge/experience.
Support the Process Development activity by identifying and evaluating existing and emerging material technologies that may serve to advance the current state of the art in device design.
Collaborate with key material suppliers to develop specifications, test methods and processing methods to meet product design, quality and cost requirements.
Develop a forum for sharing of knowledge with other LRM facilities to maximise the benefit to the company.
Project management using standard methodology, including coordination of inter-departmental teams (local and cross-site).
Assist in training employees in new or improved processes.
Process and product validation.
Process / layout design and implementation.
Develop and support related documentation: - ECO generation to introduce changes and maintain DMR documentation.
In addition, the Sr. Process Development Engineer will support the development of other staff members through interaction/coaching as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
BS in Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent experience
Master’s Degree or PhD in applied science; Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science preferred
A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of above requirements
Working knowledge of the principles and practices of VIM, ESR and VAR melting technology
Understanding of thermo-mechanical processing, the development of mechanically-worked microstructure and the relationship between microstructure and mechanical properties
Change Agent with the ability to lead through vision & implementation of the realized product line
Good understanding of business processes, issues and concerns
Excellent leadership, influencing skills, as well as strong oral and written communications skills
Knowledge of Six Sigma and continuous improvement tools a plus
